The Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot has assured Kenyans that the Senate will continue protecting and promoting Devolution as is stipulated in the 2010 Constitution.

In a submission given on his behalf by Nyandarua County Senator John Methu during the closing ceremony of the Devolution Conference at Eldoret Sports Club in Uasin Gishu, Sen. Cheruiyot commended stakeholders who took part in the conference assuring them that all the proposals and recommendations noted during the conference will be addressed fully for the benefit of Kenyans.

He applauded achievements made so far in the country courtesy of Devolution appealing to Kenyans to continue supporting Devolution.

“Ten years on, we have seen the immense political, social and economic impact that Devolution has had on the lives of the people of Kenya,” submitted Sen. Cheruiyot.

“The transformation is evident and as Kenyans, we ought to take pride in the tremendous achievements that have been enabled by Devolution,” emphasized Sen. Cheruiyot.

The Kericho County Senator reiterated the willingness of the Senate to support and ensure calls by several stakeholders to strengthen Devolution are adhered to.

He noted that as deliberated in detail during the Conference, he is in agreement that resources meant for Counties should be enhanced and disbursed in time affirming calls for transfer of all the functions meant for Counties.

The Lawmaker revealed that the Senate will go an extra mile in ensuring that all the relevant legal frameworks are put in place to strengthen implementation of Devolution key among them putting in place a legal framework that will give the County Assemblies financial autonomy.

He said granting the financial autonomy to the County Assemblies will promote their independence and aid them discharge their oversight role objectively.
