The Public Debt and Privatization Committee led by Hon. Abdi Shurie (Balambala) has met with officials from the Office of the Auditor-General, who briefed the Committee on the loans that have acquired but have not been disbursed, as at 30th June 2022.
In their submission, the Auditor General's teamΒ told MembersΒ that the Government has entered into loans and grants agreements with various Development Partners, to fund development projects.
Β On the loans audited, committed but not disbursed, the Deputy Auditor-General Mr. Sylvester Kiini stated that, "A review of the National Treasury's summary statement of debt stock as at 30th June 2022, revealed that a total of 106 loans denominated in various currencies had not been disbursed. Seven of these loans had reached their maturity dates before being disbursed."
Β The Chairperson of the Committee Hon. Shurie requested the team to further provide details of loans that have attracted commitment fees and those that do not, and how much was paid for, per specific loan.
Β Mr. Kiini promised to furnish the Committee with all the details including the respective penalties for each loan, and the total amount for each loan, translated from the currency it was acquired through, to the local currency.
