Senate Committee on Land, Environment and Natural Resources Chaired by Nyandarua Senator John Methu, today met with the petitioners concerning the illegal demolition of houses by the Kenya power and Lighting Company in Chokaa, Mihangβo Area in Nairobi City County.
The Petitioners informed the Committee that Residences totaling to 150 occupants got their properties demolished/destroyed 2019 as they watched in disbelief disregarding all efforts of involving the KPLC, DCC and seeking a court order to stop any form of demolition.Β Β
Petitioners also told the Committee that KPLC demolished their Houses without notify the residence, and during that period all developers who had their houses ready had power installed and were given mater numbers by KPLC where they were paying bills.
Petitioners therefore pray that the Senate Committee on Land looks into the matte with a view of ensuring resettlement of the Victims is done by the KPLC to enable them to return to their normal life, Committee to ensure that the affected families are adequately compensated and also requested the Committee to visit the site to appreciate the kind of development done by the residence.
Legislators resolved to invite Cabinmate Secretary Ministry of Energy and Kenya power and Lighting Company to explain the reasons for demolition.
Other Senators in attendance were, Sen. William Cheptumo, Sen. Beatrice Ogolla, Sen. Johnes Mwaruma and Sen. Wahome Wamatinga.
