The Commissioner of Cooperative Development Mr. David Obonyo and Mr. Peter Wanjohi (Drumvale Farmers Cooperative Society liquidator) appeared before Senate Standing Committee on Trade, Industrialization and Tourism today to appraise the Committee on various unclear matters in the Petition regarding liquidation of Drumvale Farmers Cooperative Society in Machakos County.Β
The liquidator presented a report on the status and acreage of the land that had been set aside for public utilities such as churches, school, police posts, hospitals, cattle troughs and riparian land and which has not been subdivided. He further provided information on the acreage of land that had been earmarked for each of the public facility.Β
The Committee Chaired by Sen. Lenku Ole Kanar Seki and the Commissioner of Cooperative Development agreed to a roadmap and timelines for the handing over of the Drumvale Farmers Cooperative Society's documentation and assets to the society for sub-division among its members.
The Commissioner of Cooperatives has been given a maximum of 30 days to officially hand over the Society back to its rightful owners in the presence of the County Governor, County Cooperative Directors among other relevant stakeholders as well as hold a Special General meeting with the Society's members on the same after which the Commission will present a handover report to the Senate Committee on Trade, Industrialization and Tourism.Β
Sen. Esther Okenyuri, Sen. Dr. Lelegwe Ltumbesi, Sen. Crystal Asige, Sen. Andrew Omtatah and Sen. Agnes Kavindu were present in the meeting.
