Leader of the Majority Party in the National Assembly, Hon. Kimani Ichungβwah, and his minority counterpart, Hon. Opiyo Wandayi, have jointly urged the National Government Constituencies Development Fund constituency committees to propose projects that genuinely address the concerns of the electorates.
Hon. Ichung'wah noted that meaningful public participation requires the active involvement and guidance of Members of ParliamentΒ in order to effectively represent the interests of the public.
He encouraged Members to utilize the short recess to oversee and ensure the proper implementation of projects funded through NG-CDF and NGAAF. "By doing so, they would fulfill their role in providing meaningful oversight", he said.
Similarly,Β Hon. Wandayi urged Members to guide their constituents in prioritizing new projects and emphasized the significance of NG-CDF and NGAAF.Β
He cautioned that misappropriation of funds could have dire consequences for political careers, as the success of many MembersΒ in getting re-elected has been tied to the effective management of NG-CDF.
βIn their capacity as overseers and representatives, Members have a responsibility to ensure the appropriate utilization of these Funds,β he said.
Hon. Wandayi highlighted the substantial impact that NG-CDF has had at the grassroots level and called for the empowerment of Constituency Oversight Committees, which play a crucial role in overseeing the NG-CDF.Β
Furthermore, he advocated for the ring-fencing of the Fund.
