The National Assembly Departmental Committee on Education Committee led by Hon. Julius Melly (Tinderet), has directed state agencies responsible for examination management to prioritize the protection of Kenya's academic qualifications and maintain their credibility.
After a meeting with officials from the Communication Authority of Kenya (CA) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Hon. Melly stressed the importance of upholding the integrity of national examinations.
"It is crucial that all agencies involved in exam administration and management, including the DCI and CA, fulfill their duties diligently and take every necessary measure to combat cheating in exams," stated Hon. Melly.
During the meeting, theΒ Assistant Director of Cybersecurity and Head of the National Cybersecurity Centre at CA, Mr. Vincent Ngudi and DCI Director Mr. David Birech presented their findings regarding the allegations of cheating in the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.
The two officials appealed to Parliament to enact stringent laws that would deter individuals from participating in exam malpractices, noting that the current penalties were insufficient.
"As a Committee, we will draft laws, develop programs and policies, and allocate additional resources to the agencies under our oversight to eradicate this issue. With your cooperation, we have already implemented several reforms and will continue to do so," Hon. Melly reassured the team.
