The National Assembly Departmental Committee on Energy got submissions in regards to their ongoing inquiry into the escalating costs of electricity in the country from organizations dealing with electricity supply.
The three organizations; Electricity Consumers Society (ECS), Electricity Sector Association of Kenya (ESAK) and East Association for Radiation Protection (EARP) appeared before the Committee chaired by Hon. Vincent Musyoka (Mwala) and made a presentation on how they plan to reduce the cost of power in the country.
Hon. Musyoka told the organizations that the Committee is conducting an inquiry into the cost of electricity in the country.
"This Committee is currently conducting an inquiry into the escalating cost of power, after the House made a resolution through a Motion by Hon. Jane Kagiri (Laikipia) which sought to reduce the cost of electricity in the country,β Hon. Musyoka stated.
Β During his presentation, the ESAK Chief Executive Officer (CEO), George Aluru informed the Committee that the organization has both short- and long-term measures to canvas the problem. According to Mr. Aluru, the short-term measures include strengthening of the grid and eliminating any transmission network bottom lines.
βThe long-term measure for the organization is to encourage local equity and debt participation in power projects which can be achieved by breaking down all the barriers that prevent the local investors from putting money in the power sector,β Mr. Aluru said.Β Β
