Kisumu County Senator prof. Tom Ojienda is seeking a Statement from the Standing Commmittee on Lands, Environment and Natural Resources regarding the ownership and registration of land occupied by the irrigation schemes in Kisumu County.

In his Statement, the Senator wants the Committee to provide a report detailing the nature of ownership anD registration of land occupied by the irrigation schemes in Kisumu County, especially in Ahero, Gem Rae, Ombeyi, Seme, Kisian, Chiga, Nyamthoe, Kasiru Kolal, Ahero Extension, West Kano, Southwest Kano, Magwagwa Pilot and Awach Kano Irrigation Schemes.

The Senator also wants the Committee to state the measures, if any that have been taken to register these parcels of land and allocate them to individual private owners and, in case where acquisition has already taken place, state measurers put in place to compensate those whose lands were taken away; and state any plans in place, if any, to expand the schemes in Kisumu County for purposes of enhancing rice farming ( and other crop cultivation) for food security.
