The Senate has established a special committee to investigate the proposed removal from office by impeachment of the Siaya Deputy Governor William Oduol.
Through a motion tabled in the Senate this Thursday by Majority Leader Sen. Aaron Cheruiyot, the house adopted a list of 11 Senators to investigate allegations labelled against the Deputy Governor.
The County Assembly of Siaya on 8th June 2023 approved a motion to remove from office by impeachment of the Siaya County Deputy Government William Oduol.
The speaker of the County Assembly of Siaya conveyed to the Senate Speaker a resolution of the County Assembly removing from office by impeachment of the Deputy Governor in a letter dated 9th June 2023 and further forwarded to him documents in evidence of the proceedings of the Assembly.
The special committee members approved to carry out the investigation are Sen. William Kisang of Elgeyo Marakwet County, Sen. Abass Mohamed of Wajir County, Sen. Mwenda Gataya Mo Fire of Tharaka Nithi County, Sen. Tabitha Mutinda, Sen. Raphael Chimera Mwinzagu, Sen. Miraj Abdullahi Abdulrahman, and Nyamira County Senator Erick Okongβo Omogeni, SC.
Other members of the committee are Sen. Catherine Mumma, Sen. Daniel Maanzo of Makueni County, Sen. Betty Batuli Montet and Kisii County Senator Richard Onyonka.
Senators who contributed to the motion appealed to members of the Special Committee to conduct their work diligently ensuring that justice is delivered to all the parties involved.
Pursuant to Standing Order 80 (2) (b), the Special Committee is required to report to the Senate, within 10 days of its appointment, on whether particulars of the allegations against the Deputy Governor have been substantiated.
