The Departmental Committee on Communication, Information and Innovation this week; in two separate delegations, continued its inspection visits of Constituency Innovation Hubs (CIHs). The two teams, one to the Coastal Region and, another to the Nyanza and Western regions, undertook the site tours of various hubs to, among others; ascertain the infrastructural status of the hubs, human resource capacities, equipment availability, and general functionalities of the Ajira project.

Led by Homa Bay County MP Hon. Joyce Osogo, the delegation in Nyanza and Western regions made its first stop at the Kisumu County Governor’s Office where they paid a courtesy call to the Governor. Thereafter, they  headed to the CIH in Nyando Constituency.

At the hub in Nyando, the delegation noted that despite having internet and power supply challenges, the hub is up and running, with hundred of youths having successfully completed the empowerment program.

In Homabay County, the delegation visited the Homabay town Constituency where the CIH infrastructure is in place, computers have been purchased but not yet installed due to a shortage of trainers.

Members expressed concern with the state of affairs in the hub, challenging the MP to source for professionals who can set up the hub for the benefit of the youth in the region.

In Migori County, Rongo Constituency, the delegation visited the East Kamagambo Creative and Innovation Centre in Opapo, where out of 13 computers, nine were dysfunctional. In addition, the Hub, despite being infra-structurally ready for operations, the youth barely have access to computers.

The delegation to the Coast Region visited the Voi CDF CIH, which is hosted within the community library.

The Legislators led by Kuresoi North MP Hon.Joseph Tanui observed that there were beneficiaries of the program in web development, graphic design, and digital marketing. However, they face challenges of internet connectivity and inadequate computers.

The two delegations continue their inspection tours in Migori, Homabay, and Mombasa Counties.
