The National Assembly Public Investments Committee on Commercial Affairs and Energy has directed the Kenya Railways Corporation management to provide evidence of the ownership of several land parcels purported to have been irregularly reallocated.

The Committee Chaired by Pokot South Member of Parliament Hon David Pkosing issued the instructions when Kenya Railways Managing Director Mr. Phillip Mainga appeared before the Committee for review of the Corporation's Audited accounts for the Financial Years 2018/2019 to 2020/2021.

According to the Report of the Auditor General the Corporation may have transferred ownership of several land parcels without following the due process. Among these parcels of land are nine industrial plots measuring approximately three acres, which the Auditor General said were located within Kikuyu Railway Station and, parcels of land adjacent to Mombasa Railway Station measuring approximately 0.75 to one acre said to have been irregularly allocated to third parties. Some of these pieces of land have already been developed.  

 Across the country another 529 parcels of land have been identified as having been irregularly allocated. 

Hon. Pkosing reminded the Kenya Railways Corporation management that they had to comply and provide evidence for ownership of the said parcels of land. “Without this information there is no way you can prove ownership of these parcels of land. The Auditor General is very clear on this query and you have to comply’, he said.

The Committee gave the Corporation three weeks to provide the required information.
