IEBC SELECTION PANEL RETREATS TO NAIVASHA TO PREPARE A WORKPLAN

The IEBC Selection Panel, Chaired by Dr. Evans Makanda, has commenced a three-day retreat to develop a work plan for the process.

The Select Penel Secretariat, led by the Deputy Clerk Mr. Jeremiah Ndombi, used the meeting to apprise the Members on the Rules of Procedure as well as the Selection Procedure.

The Chairman, Dr Evans Makanda, in his opening remarks, reminded the Members and the Secretariat of the enormous task ahead and further urged that all should discharge their duties with utmost dedication and sacrifice.

"The whole Nation is depending on this Panel to deliver the right applicants for the role of IEBC Chairperson and Commissioners and I know I have Members who are up to the task. Let us sacrifice and work extra hard to deliver on our mandate," said Dr Makanda.

The Vice Chairperson Ms Charity Kisotu said that for the Panel to succeed in their work there was a need adopt and adhere to high standards of professionalism and discipline among Members and the Secretariat.

"I want to assure Kenyans that we will stick to our Constitutional Mandate while discharging our duties and will ensure that the right people take charge of the Country's Electoral Body," she added.

She further stated:"I believe that by the end of this retreat we will have a workable work plan to guide the Panel in discharging its mandate".

Ms. Kisotu urged Members of the Panel and the Secretariat to strictly observe the rule of confidentiality as they are handling a sensitive exercise.

Deputy Clerk Mr. Jeremiah Ndombi, who represented the Clerk of the Senate Mr. Jeremiah Nyegenye, who is also the Secretary to the Panel, assured the Members of the Panel of the unwavering support from the Secretariat.

"We have very competent members of the Secretariat that will be of great help to the Panel...please reach out to them for any assistance," stated Mr Ndombi.

They have 90 days to complete the exercise of recruiting the Commissioners as stlipulated by law.
