The National Assembly Speaker, the Rt. Hon Moses Wetang'ula was on Friday conferred with an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Humane Letters (Honoris Causa) by the Kibabii University during the institutions 7th graduation ceremony.

Previously referred to as the Rt. Hon. Moses Francis Masika Wetang’ula, his salutation changes to include his achieved degree henceforth referred to as the Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Moses Francis Masika Wetang’ula.

In his acceptance speech, Speaker Wetang'ula said that he was humbled for the gesture and thanked the management of the Kibabii University for the incredible honor.

"This honor is not just a reflection of my personal achievements, but it is also a holding of true to the hard work and dedication of many individuals who have supported and inspired me through my journey this far," he said.

The Speaker appreciated his parents; Father, Mzee Dominic and his Mother, Anne Wetang'ula, family, friends, and his allies and friends whom he said had never tired in buttressing his socio-political and economic defense lines against his competitors and adversaries.

"Politics can be a challenging and complex arena, but I have always believed that true leadership means putting the needs of the society first and working tirelessly to make a positive impact in people's lives," said the Speaker.

The Speaker said that he will always be reminded of the immense responsibility that comes with the honor.

"I pledge to uphold the values of this institution and to use my knowledge and skills to make a positive impact in the world,” he added.

The Speaker promised to continue to challenge himself with a view of achieving new heights of excellence, and to inspire others to do the same. He thanked God saying that he drew strength from prayer in his undertakings.

“As I get this honor today I seek solace in the words of Reinhold Niebuhr, whose prayers I hereby adopt as mine, that “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference”. he said.

The Speaker promised to cherish the honor for the rest of his life, and strive to live up to the expectations that come with it.

Doctor Wetamg’ula however joined various other leaders in the country in condemning the courts ruling on the LGBTQ community.

He termed the move as immoral and unacceptable for people of the same sex to indulge in sexual activities.

"I want to join all Kenyans, Members of Parliament and leadership of the country led by His Excellence Dr. William Ruto to tell those LGBTQ perverts that if they want to construct a modern day Sodom and Gomorrah in Kenya, the Kenya Kwanza Government shall deconstruct them with full force," he said.

The National Assembly Speaker also noted that social perverts and those who can't destiquish between male and female species in life have no room in the Society.
