The Budget & Appropriations Committee (BAC) unanimously adopted a report on supplementary budget estimates for the Financial Year 2022/2023.

The Ndindi Nyoro led committee carried the report after a weeklong engagement with Departmental Committees on the 2022/23 Supplementary Estimates. 

The Committee reached the decision after thoroughly examining the re – allocations of funds done and the wish lists for additional funding by the Departmental Committees of the National Assembly.

The Committee also questioned the Cabinet Secretary National Treasury & Economic Planning, Prof. Njuguna Ndung’u on the re - allocation of funds from the Equalization Fund, the allegation of budgetary cuts without involvement of Ministries, Departments and Agencies and the additional funding to some projects.

While responding to the concerns of the committee on additional funding of some projects, Prof. Ndung’u said that the move was made for a better future and that the priority was given to continuous projects and production line areas.

The CS for National Treasury & Economic Planning distanced the National Treasury from the decision made to reallocate funds from the Equalization Fund. Prof. Ndung’u said that the decision was made by the Departmental Committee on Finance and Economic Planning.  

“The allegations that Departmental Committees were not involved in the budget cuts done in respective areas is not correct. We sent elaborate letters to them and most of them responded”, added Prof. Ndung’u.

Prof. Ndung’u urged the Budget & Appropriations Committee to push for accountability and Audit of Funds allocated to various projects to ensure that public resources are well utilized. 

The Committee is expected to table it's report to the National Assembly for consideration and approval to pave way for effective implementation of the government agenda.
