New Chinese envoy to Kenya calls on Senate Speaker
The Speaker of the Senate, Rt Hon Kenneth Lusaka today met the new Chinese Ambassador to Kenya, HE Amb Wu Peng who called on him at Parliament Buildings.
In welcoming Amb Peng, who officially began his tour of duty in April, Speaker Lusaka assured him of the Senate’s support in deepening Kenya-China relations.
“As the new Chinese envoy, you have the unique opportunity to build on the gains already consolidated by your predecessors. The Government’s Big 4 Agenda serves as a new frontier of engagement for our two countries,” said the Senate Speaker.
“I pledge my Senate’s support as we consider the strengthening of our bonds.”
On his part, Amb Peng lauded as “very successful” the April bilateral meeting held between with HE President Uhuru Kenyatta and President Xi Jinping.
Amb Peng also committed to facilitate bilateral relations between China's National People's Congress and Kenya’s Parliament.
The meeting also discussed infrastructural development, unique roles of their legislatures and boosting trade volumes between the countries.
In December last year, Kenya and China celebrated their 55th Anniversary since establishment of diplomatic relations between them.
