The National Assembly Deputy Speaker, Hon. Gladys Boss, hosted the Interim Committee of the Namibian Parliamentary Women Caucus

The delegation led by Hon. Emilia Nuyoma- Amupewa who is the Chairperson of Interim Committee of the Namibian Parliamentary Women Caucus is in the country to benchmark on the best practices to incorporate while formulating an active and impactful Parliamentary Women Association in Namibia.

“We are honored to be in the presence of a fellow woman in a position of leadership and power. The Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) will serve as a great source of knowledge in guiding us to understand the process of establishing the Namibian Parliamentary Women Caucus.” said Hon. Emilia Nuyoma- Amupewa.

Hon. Boss shared a detailed background on the history, structure, functions and importance of KEWOPA. 

The Deputy Speaker honored the nine women who paved way for KEWOPA to exist by breaking glass ceilings while in service. In addressing the importance of collaboration, the Deputy Speaker spoke on the numerous industry linkages KEWOPA has nurtured with like-minded institutions. She particularly appreciated the support of UN-Women Kenya for the continued partnership.

In addition,Hon. Boss outlined the importance of Parliamentary Women Associations across the globe. She expounded on the critical role KEWOPA plays in the development of local communities and empowerment of women in leadership. She stated that, “KEWOPA continues to effect positive change within our country. 

Through the association, we get to fund local projects like rehabilitation centers and mentorship programmes. The association also provides support to women leaders by offering funding, mentorship and assists them on professional and personal development”

She further emphasized on the role KEWOPA plays in enhancing constituency development, strengthening capacity of women leaders, educating and advocating for gender responsive legislation and creating an all-inclusive political party governance approach in the country.
