A BRIEF ARTICLE ON THE SENATE LIASION OFFICERS TRAINING ON ANTICIPATORY GOVERNANCE

The Senate Liaison Office, with the support of the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) conducted a one-day capacity building for Senate Liaison Officers on anticipatory governance to enhance the capacity of the officers to do foresight work as they facilitate members of the Senate Futures Caucus. The training took place on 28th August, 2024 at Sarova Panafric Hotel, Nairobi County.

 Dr. Katindi Sivi who is a renowned futurist trainer facilitated the training. Focus was on: introduction to foresight, foresight methodologies and anticipatory innovation governance. Further, the officers were equipped with effective tools, mindsets and practical approaches to build anticipatory governance into policy-making process.

 The training emphasized on the need for the officers to understand policy from a difference perspective and use power of research to come up with proper policies that will help in assimilating the future in present-day decision making.

In conclusion, the Head Senate Liaison Office emphasized on the need for every Senate Liaison Officer to fully understand futures work in parliament and be ambassadors who will make everybody understand anticipatory governance in legislation processes. He further expressed sincere gratitude on the continued partnership and support between the Senate and WFD.
