The Departmental Committee on Health on Monday, March 18, 2024 conducted a fact-finding tour of Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) aimed at gaining insights into both its challenges and successes.
Under the leadership of Chairperson, Hon. (Dr.) Robert Pukose (Endebess), the Committee exploredΒ KNH'sΒ eight departments, including the upcoming Cancer Centre and Newborn Unit.
Hon. (Dr.) Pukose, expressed gratitude for the strides KNH has made and urged the institution to continue its commendable practice of waiving bills for patients facing financial constraints.
In particular, he lauded the establishment of a bone marrow transplant center, heralding it as a significant advancement in national healthcare.
βWe are pleased to see the progress towards establishing a bone marrow transplant unit within our country, leveraging KNH's expertise and skilled medical professionals. We anticipate Ward 7's completion and the operationalization of the transplant unit by year-end,β Hon. (Dr.) Pukose said.
While commending KNH's efforts, he encouraged the hospital's leadership to maintain their commitment to serving Kenyans and alleviate unnecessary suffering.
He pledged the Committee's support for KNH's programs, including funding allocations for training initiatives.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO), KNH, Dr. Evanson Kamuri, thanked the Committee for their visit assuring the Members of the hospital's commitment to delivering quality healthcare.
