The Public Petitions Committee led by Vice Chairperson, Hon. Janet Sitienei (Turbo) met with Hon. Hon. Chiforomodo Mangale (Lunga Lunga) who was presenting a petition on behalf of a section of residents from Kidomaya and Miungoni Villages in Vanga Ward of Lunga Lunga Constituency.

The petitioners want the National Assembly to intervene in a matter that has seen residents of the two villages in Vanga Ward embroiled in a tussle over 1,506 acres of land which they have occupied for more than 35 years.

In their plea, the petitioners say that the residents are at risk of losing the land which different generations have called home.

Hon. Mangale informed the Committee that the residents were entitled to receive title deeds after residing on the land for over 35 years after the previous owners' lease expired close to 20 years ago.ย

He further told the Committee that the adjudication process had begun, with the Kwale County Government setting aside Kshs.3 million for the project in 2017/18, but the project stalled without a reason.

Members sought answers on the true ownership of the parcel of land after the petition failed to answer pertinent questions on the ownership status of the land in contention.

Hon. Sitienei urged the petitioners to conduct more research and provide the Committee with all available facts on the matter through extensive consultation with the residents.

ย "We are committed to serving the people, we will endeavour to investigate the matter extensively," she said.
