Kajiado County Assembly appeared today before Senate County Public Accounts Committee (CPAC) led by Nandi County Senator Samson Cherarkey to respond to the report by the Auditor General for the Year ended 30th June, 2020.

The Auditor General affirmed to the Committee that audit queries on variance between financial statements and IFMIS figures, Inaccuracies in cash equivalents and fixed asset register where resolved.

Auditor General report on non-compliance with law on ethics composition indicates that Human Resource records maintained by the Assembly revealed that the Assembly had eighty-two (82) employees as at 30th June, 2020 out of which seventy nine percent (79%) were from the dominant community. 

This was contrary to the provision of section 65(1)(e) of the County Government Act, 2012 which requires the county public service Board to ensure that at least thirty percent (30%) of the vacant posts at the entry level are filled by candidates who are not from the dominant ethnic community. Consequently, the County Assembly Management was in breach of law. 

Kajiado County Assembly Speaker in his response told the Committee that, ‘’we agree with the findings; however, the small disparity in the 30% threshold in ethnic cohesion is as a result of four staff that left the service for greener pasture. We endeavor to ensure that threshold is reached in the subsequent replacement.’’  

Lawmakers resolve to give Kajiado County Assembly a clean bill of health and appreciated them for complying with Senate and the Auditor General to ensure that services are delivered to the residents of Kjioado County.
