Sen. Susan Kihika-Majority Whip

Senator Susan Kihika is the second senator to be elected to represent Nakuru County in the Senate under the 2010 constitution. She is one of the three women senators elected in the 2017 general elections. Senator Kihika is privileged to have been appointed by her party to be the Majority Whip for the Senate. Kihika is a lawyer by profession. She holds a Political Science and Government degree from the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas, USA and a Juris Doctorate law degree from the Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, USA. 

After graduating with her Law degree and being admitted to the Texas State Bar, Kihika was employed by the U.S. Government as a Prosecutor for the State of Texas at the Dallas County District Attorney's Office.  She rose through the ranks to become the Chief Prosecutor of a court where she was responsible for prosecuting thousands of criminal cases through jury and bench trials. After four years, Kihika resigned and founded her law firm, The Kihika Law Firm in Dallas, Texas with a specialized focus on Immigration Defense and litigating complex deportation cases against the USA Federal Government.

After living, studying and working in the USA for close to twenty years, Kihika decided it was time to come back to Kenya and be involved in the development of her motherland. She returned to Kenya in late 2012 and made a stab at elective politics.

She first contested the Bahati parliamentary seat and opted out at the nomination stage. Not one to be deterred, Kihika made another attempt at the Nakuru County Assembly Speaker’s seat and won. She was later elected the Vice Chairperson of the County Assemblies Forum (CAF), a Forum composed of all 47 County Assemblies in Kenya with a membership of over 2300 MCA's and 47 County Speakers. 

Senator Kihika is committed to have the voice of Nakuru people heard and well represented in the Senate. When not performing her duties of Representation, Legislation and Oversight at the Senate or at the County, Kihika is at home taking care of her two daughters Tiffany & Ashley. She is also involved in community projects and charity work. She is especially involved in women group projects across Nakuru County, advocating for the rights and welfare of children particularly those living with disabilities and the advancement of girl child education.
