The Senate Standing Committee on Trade, Industrialization and Tourism, led by Sen Lenku Ole Kanar Seki (Kajiado), convened today to probe the Kenya National Trading Corporation (KNTC) and Charma Holdings Limited over the controversial importation of cooking oil. The session was attended by KNTC’s General Manager for Strategy, Risk, and Compliance, Lucy Anangwe, and Charma Holdings Director, Ruth Waithira Kinyanjui.

The Senate has approved the nomination of Douglas Kanja Kirocho as the Inspector General of the National Police Service. The approval follows a report presented by the Joint Committee of the National Assembly's Administration and Internal Security and the Senate's Standing Committee on National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations.

 

The report was tabled by the Chairman of the Senate National Security Committee, Sen William Cheptumo (Baringo) and seconded by Sen Danson Mungatana (Tana River).

Members of the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) Committee have asked Kenyans to jealously guard the kitty, to ensure sustained grassroots development in the wake of recent debate on its legality.

Led by Chairperson, Hon. Musa Sirma (Eldama Ravine) the MPs who were speaking during insurance of NG-CDF bursaries to needy learners in Dagoretti-North Constituency noted that the Fund had assisted many poor households pay school fees in addition to upgrading critical learning infrastructure across the country.

Today marks the conclusion of a two-day impeachment hearing for Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza, as she prepares to mount her defence against a litany of accusations. The Senate will subsequently determine whether the charges levelled against her are substantiated.

 

The Governor has assembled a legal team comprising six advocates to fight for her political survival. Spearheading her defence are lawyers Elicha Ongoya and Elias Mutuma, supported by Bridah Kimathi, Robert Mutembei, Edgar Busienga and Collins Mwenda.

Meru County Governor, Hon. Kawira Mwangaza has refuted all charges brought against her by the Meru County Assembly.

 

During the first day of Senate hearings regarding her proposed removal from office through impeachment, Governor Mwangaza dismissed the three charges presented to her during the morning session. The charges include gross violation of the Constitution and other laws, gross misconduct, and abuse of office.
