IT’S TIME TO INSTITUTIONALIZE THE DIASPORA- COMMITTEE TELLS PS

The Committee on Diaspora Affairs and Migrant Workers has called on the Principal Secretary (PS), State Department of Diaspora Workers, Ms. Roseline Njogu to acclerate the institutionalization of the Diaspora as the 48th County.

The Members who were speaking during an engagement with the PS over the policies and programs in place for the protection and promotion of the welfare of Kenyans in the diaspora. The Committee noted that this move would not help safeguard the welfare of Kenyans living abroad, but would also guarantee some of their rights such as the right to vote.

The delegation led by Hon. Emilia Nuyoma- Amupewa who is the Chairperson of Interim Committee of the Namibian Parliamentary Women Caucus is in the country to benchmark on the best practices to incorporate while formulating an active and impactful Parliamentary Women Association in Namibia.

HOUSING COMMITTEE MEETS TO CONSIDER CRITICAL AMENDMENTS TO HOUSING AND ARCHITECTURAL LAWS

The National Assembly Housing, Urban Planning and Public Works committee has today held a meeting to deliberate on among other issues the Statute Law (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill 2022, and Deliberations on Budget Policy Statement 2023.

The Committee Chaired by Emurrua Dikir MP, Hon. Johana Ngeno reviewed The Statute Law (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill 2022 which recommends  changes to the Architects and Quantity Surveyors Act (Cap. 525) and The Housing Act (Cap. 117). 

NCPB MANAGEMENT APPEARS BEFORE PIC-SSAA OVER AUDIT QUERIES.

The Managing Director, National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) was this morning taken to task over a myriad of issues affecting the board and for the board’s lackluster response to farmers’ need. The MD Mr. Joseph Kimote was appearing before the National Assembly’s Committee on Public investments, Social Services, Administration and Agriculture to respond to audit queries emanating from the audited accounts for the Financial Year 2018/2019. 

NATIONAL ASSEMBLY FINANCE AND NATIONAL PLANNING COMMITTEE CONDUCTS PUBLIC HEARINGS ON STATUTES MISCELLANEOUS AND EQUALIZATION BILLS

The National Assembly’s Departmental Committee on Finance and National planning chaired by Molo MP, Hon. Francis Kimani Kuria this morning conducted public hearings on the Statutes Miscellaneous (Amendments) Bill, 2023, and the Equalization Fund Bill, 2023 sponsored by Tiaty MP, William Kamket.

During the hearings, the Committee received submissions from a number of stakeholder- institutions among them Pricewaterhousecoopers Limited (PWC), office of the Controller of Budget, The National Treasury and The Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA),

WE WILL CONDUCT FRESH VETTING OF RECRUITMENT AGENCIES- LABOUR CS TELLS HOUSE COMMITTEE

The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection has revealed plans to start fresh vetting of agencies responsible for recruitment of Kenyan migrants workers afresh.

This is a bid to weed out rogue recruitment agencies and protect migrant workers from the rampant exploitation they have been undergoing .

While appearing before National Assembly departmental committee on Diaspora Affairs and Migrant Workers, the Cabinet Secretary for Labour, Hon. Florence Bore, disclosed that the sector is the leading source of remittance into the country  and thus should be streamlined.
