SEN. CHERARKEY SAMSON KIPROTICH REQUEST FOR A STATEMENT ON THE CLOSURE AND RE-OPENING OF CHINA SQUARE.
Nandi County Sen. Cherarkey Samson Kiprotich, MP, is seeking a statement from the Senate Standing Committee on Trade, Industrialization and Tourism on the closure and re-opening of China Square.
The Senator wants the committee to;
1. Cause an investigation into the closure and later re-opening of China Square along the Thika Superhighway.
2. Table the report by Kenya Anti-Counterfeit Authority on the alleged counterfeit goods that were reportedly being sold by China Square;
3. Provide information supporting that China Square complied with all the government requirements for foreigners to open and operate businesses in Kenya;
4. Provide proof of tax compliance by China square in its operations including tax on import and retail of commodities; and
5. State measures, put in place, by the Ministry of Investments, Trade, and Industry to ensure a conducive business environment for healthy competition between local and foreign investors including promotion of collaboratuion between China Square and local Traders.
