Kenya Saturday afternoon edged out Burundi in Men Basketball Match at KPA Makupa Sports ground with a victory of 64-37.
The National Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Dr. Moses Wetang'ula, Parliamentary Service Commissioner, Hon. Rachael Ameso and the Clerk of Senate, Mr. Jeremiah Nyegenye witnessed team Kenya assert their dominance of the game.
Senator David Wakoli turned out as the Most Valuable Player garnering 18 points.
Hon. Dominic Letipila contributed 16 points, shining as the second best scorer tying with Burundi's best scorer Hon. Nkurunaga Fabrile.
Senator Danson Mungatana's defensive skills were evident upon the collection of seven defensive rebounds, while Hon. Japheth Nyakundi earned accolades of the best player by the fans for his tactical skills and prowess in the game.
Kenya maintained a commanding spirit closing the 1st quarter with 17-8, 31-16 at the end of the second quarter and levelled up to 50-27 and 64-37 in the third and fourth quarters respectively.
The Kenyan team was a mix of sharpshooters and dynamic playmakers charged with athleticism, allure and skill. This was evident in Hon. Felix Odiwuor and Hon. Caleb Mule.
Towards the end of the game, Burundi posted double points and rebounds but which didn't suffice to reduce the huge gap created by the Kenyan team.
Kenya adhered to the dictates of basketball; bouncing the ball diligently and scoring more to win.
Speaking to the Media after the match, Hon. Japheth Nyakundi praised the presence of Speaker Wetang'ula whom he said gave them motivation to deliver the best performance.
"The presence of Speaker Wetang'ula gave us the energy to play harder and deliver the win," said Hon. Nyakundi.
On his part, Hon. Caleb Mule attributed the victory to the team's adequate preparations and the vibrant cheering squad who believed in the team.
"I hereby call upon our fans to turn out in large numbers on Monday and give us morale," Hon. Mule said.
Kenya is looking forward to a match with Uganda even as they seek to enhance the agenda of the East African Community Inter-Parliamentary Games, which is fostering integration and unity.
The win is likely to stage Kenya as the defending champions of Men Basketball in the East African Community region.
