The Kenya Women Parliamentarians Association (KEWOPA) Executive Committee members came together for a retreat to introspect on their leadership paths, recharge and reconnect with their core mandates.

Β The retreat, sponsored by URAIA and the Royal Danish Embassy, provided a platform for the legislators to assess the progress made by the Association and craft projections for the future. They addressed the challenges and triumphs of their roles.

Β The retreat’s discussions extended beyond individual leadership, emphasizing on the concept of intergenerational leadership, understanding how today’s women leaders are building on the legacy of those who came before and how they can pave the way for future generations.

Β There was also a moment to honour past leaders who have actively continued to shape women's leadership.

Β KEWOPA, Chairperson, Hon. Leah Sankaire (Kajiado County) asked the women leaders not to forget where they had come from.

Β β€œWe have had an opportunity to look at the trail blazers that have created these spaces that we enjoy now and we are looking forward to incorporating them into our movement so that we don’t forget where we have come from,” Hon. Sankaire said.

Β Beyond the discussions, the retreat offered a chance for the leaders to strengthen their bonds. They shared personal stories, experiences and also supported one another through moments of vulnerability. It was a powerful reminder that, despite the pressures of their positions, they are part of a larger, supportive community.

Β The two-day retreat prepared the participants to face future challenges with fresh insights, renewed sense of purpose, determination and a cohesive spirit.

β€œWe need a united voice that will rise above any differences that we have as women leaders to stand together, work together and make KEWOPA great,” Sen. Beth Syengo (Nominated) said.

Β Reflecting on the retreat, Vice Chairperson, Hon. Beatrice Elachi (Dagoretti North) said the experience was a vital moment to recharge and reconnect with what drives the Members.

Β β€œThis experience has been a vital moment to recharge, to reconnect with what drives us and renew our commitment to making a difference. I leave here with renewed energy and clarity, ready to continue the important work ahead,” she said.

Β URAIA and the Royal Danish Embassy give support to the engagements to advance political leadership, foster a more inclusive environment and move forward with a stronger, united vision for the future.
