The National Assembly on Thursday, August 7, 2024, debated and approved the Report by the Committee on Appointment that carried out the vetting.

In the Report one nominee, Ms. Stella Soi Lang'at - nominee CS, Gender, Culture, The Arts & Heritage was not approved for appointment.

The Committee on Appointments Chaired by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Moses Wetang’ula conducted a rigorous vetting exercise last week to assess the suitability of the nominees to Cabinet.

The CSs approved by the House include;

1.Β Β  Hon. (Prof.) Kithure Kindiki, PhD., EGH - Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration.

2.Β Β  Dr. Deborah Mlongo Barasa - Cabinet Secretary for Health.

3.Β Β  Hon. Alice Wahome, EGH – Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development.

4.Β Β  Mr. Julius Migos Ogamba - Cabinet Secretary for Education.

5.Β Β  Hon. Roselinda Soipan Tuya, EGH - Cabinet Secretary for Defence.

6.Β Β  Dr. Andrew Mwihia Karanja - Nominee CS, Agriculture & Livestock Development.

7.Β Β  Hon. Aden Barre Duale, EGH - Nominee CS, Environment, Climate Change & Forestry.

8.Β Β  Mr. Eric Murithi Mugaa - Nominee CS for Water, Sanitation & Irrigation.

9.Β Β  Mr. David Chirchir, EGH - Nominee CS for Roads & Transport.

19. Hon. Justin Bedan Njoka Muturi, EGH - Nominee CS, Public Service & Human Capital Development.

The Committee on Appointment elaborated the reasons behind rejecting Ms. Stella Soi as it stated that the nominee failed to demonstrate sufficient knowledge of key issues on her docket during the vetting process.

"Pursuant to sections of6 (7), 6 (8) and 7 of the Public Appointments (Parliamentary Approval) Act, the committee observed that Ms Stella Soi Langat failed to demonstrate adequate knowledge of topical, administrative and technical issues touching on the portfolio to which she had been nominated," observed the Committee Report.

Speaker Moses Wetang’ula recognized the immense and meticulous contributions of the two outgoing Members of the House in debate and other parliamentary duties in different capacities.

β€œToday, we bid farewell to two distinguished Members of this House, Hon. Opiyo Wandayi and Hon. John Mbadi, who have been appointed to serve in the Cabinet as the Cabinet Secretaries for the National Treasury and Energy, respectively.

Dr. Wetang’ula urged the leaders of their national duties, saying that they now had a huge mandate and were required to serve a wider population.

β€œAs you embark on this new journey, remember that you are not just Ministers of any party; you are Ministers of the Republic of Kenya. Your dedication and service should transcend party lines and focus on the betterment of our great nation.” Added Speaker Wetang’ula.

The vetting process was conducted under Articles 152(2) on approval hearings of Cabinet Secretaries.

Members of the Appointments Committee are; Deputy Speaker, Hon. Gladys Boss, Hon. Kimani Ichung'wah, Hon. Owen Baya, Hon. Robert Mbui, Hon. Rahab Mukami, Hon. Dido Ali Raso, Hon. Gitonga Murugara, Hon. David Gikaria, Hon. Ferdinand Wanyonyi, Hon. Mary Emaase, Hon. Rahim Dawood, Hon. Junet Mohammed, Hon. Caleb Amisi, Hon. Stephen Mule, Hon. Nelson Koech, Hon. Abdi Shurie, Hon. Naisula Lesuuda, Hon. David Pkosing, and Hon. Mishi Mboko.
