Speaker of the National Assembly, Rt. Hon (Dr.) Moses Wetangβula on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 called upon Members to prioritize and prepare adequately for the upcoming House business, some of which have statutory timelines.
Β Speaker Wetangβula emphasized the need for timely consideration of several important Bills, including the Division of Revenue Bill, 2024, Supplementary Estimates II for the FY 2023/2024, and the Estimates for the FY 2024/2025. Others include Budget-related Bills such as the Appropriation Bill, and the Finance Bill, 2024.Β
Additionally, he told the Members that the House is set to consider the County Allocation of Revenue Bill, 2024.
Β In the Communication, the Speaker also reminded the Members that timely consideration of House business calls for the utmost dedication from each one of them.
Β βIt is noteworthy that the finalizations of consideration of the Division of Revenue Bill, 2024, Supplementary Estimates Il for the FY 2023/2024 and the Estimates for the FY 2024/2025 have prescribed statutory timelines which is the month of June. I, therefore, urge each one of you to rise to the occasion, just as you have done before, and deliver on the legislative agenda as required by the Constitution,β he said.Β
Β In addition, the Speaker informed the House that the Cabinet Secretary, National Treasury and Planning will make a public pronouncement of the Budget policy highlights and revenue-raising measures for the National Government for the Financial Year 2024/2025, on Thursday, June 13, Β 2024, in the National Assembly Chamber, starting at 3.00 pm.
Β βThis is in keeping with the requirements of section 40 of the Public Finance Management Act, 2012 and Standing Order 244C,β he said.
Β The Speaker also expressed gratitude for the efforts made by Members during the recess period, acknowledging the productive work on important matters including the Supplementary Estimates II for the financial year 2023/2024, consideration of the Estimates for the financial year 2024/2025, public participation on the Finance Bill, 2024, and mediation on the Division of Revenue Bill, 2024.
