Members of Parliament led by Leader of the Minority Party, Hon. Opiyo Wandayi have called on the Government to engage the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Union (KMPDU) to resolve any outstanding issues, and to avert a crisis that will result from doctors downing their tools.

Hon. Wandayi cited the patient's plight especially those whose surgeries are slated and emergency cases that need urgent medical attention.

"Hundreds of thousands of visits to outpatient clinics might have to be cancelled or postponed, same to the operations that had been scheduled to be carried out. We are looking at a shutdown of emergency rooms, dialysis units, oncology, obstetric and neonatal departments," Hon. Wandayi said.

He pointed out the need for the Ministry of Health to share its plans on how Kenyans will access emergency treatment, critical care, neonatal care and trauma during the strike.

The legislators further called on the Cabinet Secretary for Health to reach out to the Cabinet Secretary for National Treasury and Economic Planning Ministry to release funds for drugs.

Hon. Tom Odege (Nyatike) called upon the Cabinet Secretary for Health to urgently fix the issues raised by the doctors’ Union.

While expressing concerns over the fate of expectant mothers and accident victims, Hon. Fatuma Mohammed (Migori) and Hon. Gertrude Mbeyu (Kilifi), urged the Government to facilitate the provision of healthcare services uninterrupted.

Nominated MP, Hon. Irene Mayaka urged the Ministry of Health to consider the issues raised by the Medical practitioners and have them sorted out amicably.
