The National Assembly Regional Integration Committee under the leadership of Chairperson, Hon. Wanjiku Muhia (Kipipiri) met with the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of East African Community (EAC), the ASALs and Regional Development, Hon. Abdi Fidhow.
The purpose of the meeting was to have a stakeholder engagement and a capacity-building exercise that will guarantee that all stakeholders are operating from a common base of knowledge.
Among the topics addressed include; the East African Community's Protocol on the Establishment of the East African Customs Union, Protocol on the Establishment of the East African Community Common Market, the Establishment of the East African Community Monetary Union, and The Acts of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).
In her opening Remarks, Hon. Muhia spoke about the significance of unification of the East African Community.
โThe East African Community is a masterpiece, a beautiful piece of art made of eight countries. Its unity is something to be desired, something to be strived for, but cannot be willed by mere declarations," stated Hon. Muhia.
She added that as a Committee they take pride in being stakeholders who oversee the journey to oneness of one of the fastest growing regional economic blocs in the world. Our dedication and collaboration will shape a brighter future for our citizens, creating an environment where regional integration and tourism thrive.
The PS informed the Committee that the exercise was vital in bringing parity between the Ministry and Parliament as the oversight body.
