The Budget and Appropriations Committee chaired by Hon. Ndindi Nyoro has commenced receiving Departmental Committee 2024 Budget Policy Statement (BPS) reports by chairpersons.
In his opening remarks, Hon. Nyoro emphasized the importance of the Budget Committeeโs examination of the BPS. He noted that this process provides a platform for thorough discussions, enabling the identification of concerns and proposals to optimize the budgetโs effectiveness while setting Budget ceilings.
โWe are reviewing the Departmental Committee reports on the 2024 BPS vis-a-vis the report presented to the Floor of the House from the National Treasury and Economic Planning Ministry,โ Hon. Nyoro said.
A majority of the reports presented recommended the approval of the proposed expenditure ceilings and programs as provided in the 2024 BPS. However, many Departmental Committees have proposed an enhancement of their ceilings through additional funding.
Among the Committees that presented their reports to the Budget Committee yesterday are; Communication, Information & Innovations, Lands, Environment, Forestry & Mining, Trade, Industry & Cooperatives, Defense, Intelligence & Foreign Relations, Social Protection, Agriculture & Livestock, Housing, Urban Planning & Public Works and the Transport & Infrastructure Committees.
