The National Assembly, in collaboration with the Center for Parliamentary Studies and Training (CPST), began a two day training of members of theย Kenya Parliamentary Journalists Association (KPJA), at the Kenya School of Government in Lower Kabete, Kiambu County.
The training, themed, "Parliamentarizing Parliamentary Journalists," is designed for the journalist toย familiarize themselves with procedural matters, budget formulation, ethics, and integrity.
Senior staff from several Directorates of the National Assembly facilitated the sessions to provide a deeper understanding of Parliament from firsthand experience.
Giving the opening remarks, Deputy Clerk, Mrs. Serah Kioko, expressed her gratitude to the journalists for their dedicated work, fostering the link between the legislature and the public.
โThe media plays the cardinal role of disseminating information about our activities and functions as the Legislature. You are the bolt that perfectly brings together the two joints - The National Assembly and the people it represents,โย Mrs. Kioko said.
She also emphasized the significance of journalists reporting with authority and from an informed point through an open partnership with Parliament.
โWe call upon you to ensure not just accurate reporting, but that what is being disseminated is not only accurate, evidence based, and understood, but it cannot also be misunderstoodโ she added.
Further, Mrs. Kioko assured the journalists that the National Assembly's leadership is dedicated to empowering them to enhance their understanding of Parliamentary affairs and become trustworthy partners in informing the public about the matters of the august House.ย
