The Senate Special Committee on the proposed removal from office by impeachment of the Siaya Deputy Governor William Oduol held a meeting today ahead of the hearings that begin this Wednesday morning.
Members adopted the programme that will be followed during the hearings scheduled to take place on Wednesday and Thursday.
According to the plan by the committee, this Wednesday`s hearings will entail introduction of Members of the Special Committee, introduction of Members representing the County Assembly of Siaya and the Counsel then introduction of the Deputy Governor and the Counsel representing him.
The hearing programme will begin with reading of the charges labeled against the Deputy Governor before the committee proceeding to hear the evidence by the County Assembly of Siaya.
The Deputy Governor is scheduled to give his evidence on the allegations laid against him on Thursday 22 June 2023.
The County Assembly of Siaya on 8th June 2023 approved a motion to remove from office by impeachment of the Siaya County Deputy Government William Oduol.
The speaker of the County Assembly of Siaya conveyed to the Senate Speaker a resolution of the County Assembly removing from office by impeachment of the Deputy Governor in a letter dated June 9, 2023 and further forwarded to him documents in evidence of the proceedings of the Assembly necessitating the creation of the Special Committee to investigate the matter.
The special committee comprises Sen. William Kisang of Elgeyo Marakwet County (Chairperson), Sen. Betty Batuli Montet (Vice Chairperson), Sen. Abass Mohamed of Wajir County, Sen. Mwenda Gataya Mo Fire of Tharaka Nithi County, Sen. Tabitha Mutinda, Sen. Raphael Chimera Mwinzagu, Sen. Miraj Abdullahi Abdulrahman, Nyamira County Senator Erick Okongβo Omogeni, SC, Sen. Catherine Mumma, Sen. Daniel Maanzo of Makueni County and Kisii County Senator Richard Onyonka.
