Senate Speaker Rt. Hon. Amason Jeffah Kingi, EGH was among several leaders who attended this year's National Prayer Breakfast meeting at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi.

The theme of this year`s National Prayer Breakfast was Reconciliation; The action of making one view or belief compatible with another.

Speaking during the event, Speaker Kingi commended the organizers for the wonderful event.

β€œPlease join me in appreciating men and women who have worked tirelessly to ensure a successful event,” appealed Speaker Kingi.

He praised the Co-Chairs of the National Prayer Breakfast Sen. Daniel Maanzo and Hon. Samuel Chepkonga, Senators, Members of Parliament, Parliamentary Joint Staff and all other stakeholders and partners that sacrificed to ensure the Prayer Breakfast succeeds.

Further, Hon. Kingi thanked President Ruto for steering Kenya into a unified country urging Kenyans to continue preaching reconciliation in every part of the country.

β€œA reconciliation will be a success,” emphasized Hon. Kingi.

Scripture reading during the event was segmented into three with special prayers coming immediately after the readings.

The first segment of the scripture reading was conducted by Sen. Prof. Margret Kamar who read two readings that majorly emphasized on loving enemies and reconciliation.

Nyandarua County Woman Member of Parliament Faith Gitau closed the first segment of scripture reading by offering a prayer for the Country Kenya.

Members of Parliament jointly took to the podium to sing songs of praise and worship songs that promoted reconciliation and appreciation to God. The joint choir was led by Sen. Danson Mungatana and Majority Chief Whip and South Mugirango Member of Parliament Sylvanus Osoro.

In the second segment of scripture reading Hassan Omar read the word from the Holy Quran which was followed by a special prayer for Africa that was offered by the Marsabit County Woman Member of Parliament Naomi Waqo.

Mukurwe-ini Member of Parliament Hon. John Kaguchia led the gathering in praying for the World.

The third and final scripture reading segment was conducted by Kajiado County Governor Joseph Ole Lenku followed by special prayers for reconciliation that were offered by Court of Appeal President Hon. Justice Daniel Musinga, Chairlady of the Hindu Council Ms. Sujata Kotamraju and the Cabinet Secretary for Environment Climate Change and Forestry Soipan Tuya.

Recommendations from the National Dialogue that was conducted by the Senate on Tuesday 6, were submitted to the gathering.

The National Dialogue among others recommended for dialogue and reconciliation among Kenyans, promotion of reconciliation and human rights by government agencies.

The Dialogue also recommended for enforcement of the rule of law and implementation of the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission`s report.

President William Ruto and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua used the opportunity to appeal to leaders and Kenyans to embrace reconciliation for prosperity and happiness of Kenyans.

President Ruto who was gracing the National Prayer Breakfast for the first time in his capacity as the Commander In Chief appealed to the elected leaders to unite and work together despite their political alignments for the betterment of the Country.

The keynote speech was given by Lord Dr. Michael Hastings who commended leaders for organizing this year`s National Prayer Breakfast appealing to leaders and Kenyans at large to fully embrace reconciliation.

The National Prayer Breakfast aims at offering a platform for Kenyans to come together, reflect and pray for the national unity and progress of the country.

The National Prayer Breakfast idea that dates back to 1987 though did not take off strongly reemerged in 2002 with the first event taking place in May 2003 during the Late President Mwai Kibaki`s tenure.

A host of dignitaries attended this year`s Prayer Breakfast among them the Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Attorney General Justin Muturi, First Lady Racheal Ruto, the Deputy President`s Spouse Pastor Dorcas Gachagua, several Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, judges, Senators and Members of Parliament.

Delegations from Burundi, Uganda, Rwanda, Cote d'Ivoire, USA, DRC, Germany, South Sudan, Tanzania and Ethiopia were also in attendance.
