Kiambu County Senator Karugu Thang’wa, is seeking a Statement from Standing Committee on National Cohesion , Equal Opportunity and Regional Integration, regarding ethnic composition of the public sector workforce at different levels of government.

Senator Thang’wa in his Statement requested the Committee to provide data on the current ethnic composition of the public sector workforce at different level of government, stating whether there are targets or quotas set to ensure ethnic diversity in recruitment, retention, and promotion within the public sector; Committee to state initiatives or programmes in place to attract and retain indiduals from underrepresented ethnic backgrounds in the public sector.

Kiambu Senator also wants the Committee to confirm whether the representation of ethnic communities in public office employment mirrors the demographic realities of Kenya and find out whether there are any government entities that are in violation of section 7(2) of the National Cohesion and integration Act, disclosing mechanisms in place to enforce the law , monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the Act in promoting ethnic representation in the public sector.
