Calls for a strengthened regional bloc dominated a day of celebration, energy and sportsmanship as the East African Community (EAC) Inter-Parliamentary Sports Tournament kicked off in style in Mombasa.

 The official launch held at the Mama Ngina Waterfront was marked by pomp and colour with President William Ruto leading the charge to promote regional unity through sports.

The launch brought together legislators from Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda, Tanzania, the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) and hosts Kenya.

In a spirited showdown at the Aga Khan Academy in Mombasa County, Kenya’s men’s volleyball team has this evening reaffirmed their dominance in the sport with a commanding 3-1 sets’ victory over the Parliament of Uganda.

 Kenya, the defending champions displayed exceptional skill and teamwork to the delight of an electrified home crowd, claiming the sets at 25-20, 27-25 and 25-17.

Uganda managed to edge out a closely contested first set 26-24 but Kenya’s resilience and tactical brilliance saw them turn the tide in style.

Kenya’s athletic prowess was stamped on Monday as #TeamKenya claimed the coveted 400m relay title at the ongoing East African Community (EAC) Interparliamentary Games at the Mbaraki Sports Complex in Mombasa County.

 Led by the electrifying lawmaker, Hon. Vincent Kawaya (Mwala) the Kenyan team delivered a spectacular performance that sent fans into wild celebrations, marking a proud moment for the host nation.

 The victory sparked patriotic chants and jubilant scenes as hundreds of supporters rallied behind their leaders-turned-athletes.

Embu County Senator Alexander Munyi Mundigi is seeking a Statement from the Standing Committee on Roads, Transportation and Housing regarding the dualling of the Makutano-Mwea-Embu-Chuka-Meru road, classified as Class B6, covering a distance of 169 kilometres.

Senator David Wakoli (Bungoma) has sought a Statement from the Standing Committee on Labour and Social Welfare regarding the status of the Equity Bank (K) Limited Employee Share Ownership Plan (ESOP) scheme.

 

In the Statement, the Committee should provide a list of the trustees currently managing the Equity Bank Employee Share Ownership Plan (ESOP) scheme, explaining how they were appointed; Committee should also provide an annual breakdown of the number of employees who have joined as well as those who have opted out of the ESOP scheme from 2005 to date.

The Speaker of the National Assembly, the Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Moses Wetang’ula has this morning donated Kshs. 2 Million to uplift the operations of Nzoia Sugar -FC Football Club.

Speaker Wetang’ula acknowledged that sporting is a critical sector in the country that needs to tapped into in order to enable the youth monetize their diverse talents.
