Clerk

The office of Clerk -of the National Assembly- is provided for in Article 128 of the Constitution. The Parliamentary Schemes of Service provide that the Clerk shall be:-

    The Speaker and the Deputy Speaker

    Majority Leader: Art. 108 of the Constitution provides that “there shall be a leader of the majority party and a leader of the minority party”. The leader of the majority party shall be the person who is the leader in the National Assembly of the largest party or coalition of parties.

    Minority Leader: The leader of the minority party shall be the person who is the leader in the National Assembly of the second largest party or coalition of parties.

    Departmental Committtees

     

      Departmental Committees are established under the provisions of S.O. No. 216. Its members are nominated by the House Business Committee in consultation with parliamentary parties at the commencement of every Parliament.

      A member appointed to a departmental committee at the commencement of a Parliament or at any other time during the term of a Parliament shall, unless the House otherwise resolves, serve for the term of that Parliament.
