AFRICAN STATES MUST COMMIT MORE RESOURCES FOR AFRICAN CONTINENTAL FREE TRADE AREA(AFCFTA) - SPEAKER KINGI

The 12th Annual Conference of Speakers of African National and Regional Parliaments is underway in Midrand Johannesburg. 

 

Kenyan Delegation was led by Hon. Amason Kingi EGH, Speaker of the Senate of the Republic of Kenya. 

 

In his speech, Hon Speaker regretted the fact that the facility set up for making the platform for trade between African States was mainly funded from sources outside Africa. He called upon Africa to commit financially to making the AFCFTA work.

 

The Leader of the Delegation of Kenya to Pan African Parliament, Senator Danson Mungatana MGH, MP challenged the AFCFTA to work with existing Regional Economic blocks to create a synergy for increasing trade in Africa. 

 

The president of PAP, H.E. Chief Fortune Charumbira said that Africa is ready for the new era of trade.

 

The AFCFTA CEO, H.E. Wamkele Mene said that there was the guided trade initiative that was piloting the use of AFCFTA trade rules between African states, which has led to an increased volume of intra African trade.
