Chairperson, Departmental Committee on Education, Hon. Mr. Julius Melly (Tinderet) has praised the collaboration between the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) AND South Africa Qualifications Authority (SAQA) in development and maintenance of a multi-faced Qualifications Framework (QF) which is crucial for the education and labour sector.

Β Speaking in Pretoria, South Africa when he led a delegation from Kenya that consisted of KNQA Chairperson, Mr. Stanley Kiptis, KNQA Director General, Dr. Alice Kande, Commission of University Education (CUE), Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Prof. Mike Kuria and Ministry of Education officials, on a learning exchange visit, Hon. Melly Β said the benchmarking activity signifies Kenya’s Β commitment to reforming education and training to realize quality and relevant education that is comparable, recognizable and acceptable regionally and globally.

Β β€œIt is a testament to our dedication to empowering and uniting Africa and realization of AU Agenda 2063. This learning tour would not have happened at a better time than now when Africa is paying keen attention on implementation of the ACQF; the IGAD region is concretizing implementation of the IGAD Qualifications Framework; and on the same breath, when Kenya is looking forward to effective implementation of the KNQF and referencing the Framework onto ACQF,” said Hon. Melly.

Β He expressed confidence that the Β exchange of knowledge and experience will expand the delegation's understanding of development and operationalization of National and Regional Qualification Frameworks in a more effective and efficient endeavors.

Β KNQA, Chairperson on the other hand, said Kenya is implementing reforms in education and training sector so as to achieve equity, access, quality and relevance of education and training.

Β β€œThis is being done through the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) which was established in 2015 under the Kenya National Qualifications Framework (KNQF) Act Chapter 214.This marked a significant step in Kenya’s education reforms, aiming to streamline and standardize the diverse landscape of qualifications across all sectors,” Mr. Kiptis said.

Β He said Β currently KNQA is at an early phase of implementing the KNQF and to enable the effective implementation of its Vision, the Authority has planned to focus on three core strategic goals in the next five years including governance and accountability, quality and relevance, access and equity as well as lifelong learning.

Β Β KNQA Director General on her part said the dynamic framework serves as a beacon addressing critical areas in the qualification landscape with remarkable precision as it facilitates mobility and recognition, both nationally and internationally, fostering a globally competitive workforce.
