Role and Membership of the Senate

Role
Article 96 of the Constitution states that the following shall be the roles of the Senate:-

The Senate represents the counties, and serves to protect the interests of the Counties and their governments;

The Senate participates in the law-making function of Parliament by considering, debating and approving Bills concerning Counties, as provided in Articles 109 to 113 of the Constitution;

    In the discharge of its mandate as set out in Article 127 (6) of the Constitution, the Parliamentary Service Commission established the following offices in the Parliamentary Service for the smooth operations of the Senate:-

      The Offices of the Senate include; Office of the Speaker; Office of the Deputy Speaker; Office of the Senate Majority Leader; Office of the Senate Minority Leader; Office of the Majority Whip; Office of the Minority Whip; Office of the Clerk of the Senate and Office of the Senior Deputy Clerk.
