Senator Hamida Kibwana is seeking a statement from the Standing Committee on Health regarding alleged medical negligence at Kiambu County Referral Hospital resulting to the death of an unborn child.  

Senator Hamida in her Statement, wants the Committee to give details of the incident that occurred on July 5th, 2023, at Kiambu County Referral Hospital, where the pregnant woman tragically lost her unborn baby due to alleged negligence by health and medical practitioners at the Hospital; Committee to report on the progress made in investigating the incident, stating actions taken against the medical staff involved.

Lawmaker in her Statement, wants the Committee to explain the measures in place to ensure the provision of quality healthcare services, particularly for pregnant women, in public hospitals across the country, giving an assessment of staffing levels, training programs, and protocols for handling emergency cases; Committee to provide information on the support and compensation being offered to the affected woman and her family, as well as any measures in place to prevent a recurrence of such incidents in future.

Legislator also wants the Committee to State plans and strategies for improving the overall healthcare system, including the allocation of resources, infrastructure development, and recruitment of qualified medical personal.
