Senate Speaker Amason Kingi attended a roundtable meeting and other engagements at the Inter parliamentary Union (IPU) headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.Β
During the series of meetings, the Speaker held discussions with the Unionβs Secretary General Martin Chungong and later paid a courtesy call on Dr Cleopa Kilonzo Mailu, Kenyaβs Permanent Representative to the United Nation (UN) Office in Geneva.
As the global organisation of national parliaments, IPU stands out for its key role in empowering parliaments and parliamentarians to promote peace, democracy and sustainable development, across the world.
Speaker Kingi told the Secretary general that the Parliament of Kenya, and the Senate in particular, appreciates the partnership with IPU.
βThis has helped build capacity in our parliamentarians and caucuses such as Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) and Kenya Women Senators Association (KEWOSA), enabling them to discharge their roles effectively, part of it as key agents of parliamentary diplomacy.β
