REQUEST FOR STATEMENT ON COMMEMORATION OF THE WORLD AUTISM AWARENESS DAY
Senator Crystal Asige has requested statement pursuant to Standing Order 52(1), to make a Statement on an issue of general topical concern, namely: Commemoration of the World Autism Awareness Day.
In her statement the senator wants the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, provides for Applied Behaviour Therapy also known as Applied Behaviour Analysis, as well as sensory integration Therapy within school institutions where leaners with Autism are enrolled; The Ministry of Education in collaboration with the County Governments trough the Council of Governors to create a framework that exclusively incorporates including learners with Disabilities in bursary allocation where leaners with Autism can also benefit as a form of affirmative action.
Senator Asige in her statement recommends that the Parliamentary Service Commission can host or support an event promoting autism awareness and encourage persons with autism to share their stories and make their voice heard; Senators can attend any of the several events planned, to show support as leaders, in commemorating World Autism Awareness Day and speak out about autism throughout the month of April, to help eliminate stigma associated with it.
Legislator in her statement request the Senate Secretariat to use hashtag #WorldAutismDay to help raise autism awareness on social media pages; the standing committee on Education , through the Ministry of Education, to organise campaigns to raise awareness in schools and teachers training facilities .
A great way to help kids get to a point where they embrace diversity by using the opportunity that World Autism Awareness Day offers, and teach kids something more about the behaviours and actions that may arise in Children with autism.
