The National Assembly Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations Committee today met to deliberate on the Defence Cooperation between Kenya and the United Kingdom (UK).This meeting, follows extensive consultations between the Committee and key stakeholders including the Ministry of Defence, the British High Commissioner to Kenya, the Director of Criminal Investigations and Laikipia County Government.

The Agreement is meant to  regulate cooperation in security and defence policy, training of military and Ministry of Defence civilian personnel, Defence administration and welfare matters of military personnel, counter-piracy and other marine security services as well as peace time military activities.

Other areas of cooperation are; protection of environment, military medical services including research and development and military sports.

In addition, the Cooperation Agreement covers disaster relief and humanitarian operations by Armed Forces, Military exercises, counterterrorism, information and operation training, Defence Civilian component, Exchange visits of military personnel, mapping/survey and exchange of geographic materials and other areas of mutual interest as may be decided upon in future.

Upon conclusion of the deliberations on the Kenya-UK defence cooperation the Committee will table a Report for debate in the House.
