DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION: COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE ENGAGES ESTONIA ON PROSPECTIVE PROJECTS

A section of members of the Departmental Committee on Communication, Information and Innovation took part in a consultative workshop geared towards Supporting Kenya’s Digital Transformation for Sustainable Economic Development.

The forum, organized by the Estonian Centre for International Development, through the Estonian Ambassador to Kenya, brought together stakeholders from the Kenyan Communication and Digital sectors including the Communications Authority of Kenya, to discuss potential areas of borrowing and collaboration from the highly successful Estonian systems.

The Committee members were taken through the milestones that the Estonian government has made over the years in the development of their digital space, and for the capacity development and delivery of government programmes.

Among the topics of discussion included: Foundation for a human-centred e-governance: preconditions and must-haves, Interoperability frameworks: working principles and implementation architecture, and an Introduction of future project activities and how Kenya will benefit from that if taken up.

The workshop, sought to equip the legislators as policy-makers, with knowledge on the best way to achieve an e-government to improve the quality of online services offered by government agencies, as well as to among others, attain: Standardization, Integration, Transparency, Reusability and eventually the Confidentiality of government information systems.
