DEFENCE COMMITTEE SUMMONS FOREIGN AND DIASPORA AFFAIRS CS
The National Assembly Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations Committee hastoday resolved to summon the Cabinet Secretary Foreign and Disapora Affairs Dr. Alfred Mutua to shed more light on his recent communication to all Diplomatic and Consular Missions to deal directly with Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) without having to go through the Ministry.
Members resolved to issue the summons after the CS failed to appear before the Committee at the initially agreed time as indicated in an earlier invite. Dr. Mutua cited other official duties as the reason for non-attendance today. The CS sent communication indicating he had been invited to State House by the President for the swearing-in of Chief Administrative Secretaries (CASs), and was to later accompany the Head of State to a meeting with former UK Prime Minister Mr. Tony Blair who is in the country.
"Looking at the comments from Members we direct that this time the Committee summons the CS and he has to appear," said Hon. Bashir.
Today's session was chaired by the Vice Chairperson of the Committee Hon. Sheikh Abdullah Bashir.
