ASSEMBLY'S AGRICULTURE COMMITTEE INSPECTS LIVESTOCK GENETICS CENTER IN TRANS-NZOIA COUNTY
A Parliamentary Committee has inspected the Agriculture Development Corporation Livestock Genetics Centre in Endebess Constituency.
Lawmakers toured the Semen Processing Laboratory, various pedigree breeds of bulls and the liquid nitrogen production plant.
Agricultural Development Corporation is a State Corporation established in 1965 through an Act of Parliament to facilitate Land transfer from European settlers to locals following the country’s independence. After the successful completion of the land transfer programme, the objectives of the Corporation were revised through the Act of Parliament Cap 444 of 1986 to include promotion and execution of agricultural schemes among other Agricultural services.
Members learnt that the ADC Genetics Center has operationalised an ultra modern bull station that is currently supplying 650,000 doses of semen to farmers. The center is also using breeding technologies to acquire superior genetics.
The Committee on Agriculture and Livestock is conducting inspection visits in accordance with its mandate in budget implementation oversight.
In the coming days, Members of the Committee are expected to conduct inspection visits to various Sugar Factories and engage with farmers as part of public participation on the Sugar Bill which is currently being considered by the National Assembly.
