Speaking at the Assessment and Planning Retreat, the Clerk of the Senate, Mr. Jeremiah Nyegenye, CBS, underscored the importance of strategic foresight as the 13th Parliament enters its penultimate session. Addressing the full membership of the Senate, the Clerk emphasized that the transition to the Fifth Session is a pivotal moment for legislative consolidation.

"It is a distinct honour to facilitate this retreat, which has evolved from a leadership forum into a comprehensive session for all Senators to systematically review our performance," Mr. Nyegenye stated. "Our objective is to identify best practices and address the bottlenecks that hinder our representative and oversight roles".

Aligning with the retreat’s theme, “Advancing the Senate’s Agenda: Review, Strategy and Sustainable Progress,” the Clerk urged members to prioritize efficiency.

"The Fifth Session presents a timely window to fast-track pending business and cement a legacy of impact before the conclusion of this Parliament in 2027," he noted. "We must align our priorities with evolving national needs while strengthening the collegiality and camaraderie that define our service to the counties".

The retreat, held from February 26th to March 1st, 2026, serves as a foundational platform for the Senate to refine its legislative governance and ensure sustainable progress in its constitutional mandate.
