HON. JOHN KIARIE ELECTED PRESIDENT OF WORLD SCOUT PARLIAMENTARY UNION, AS GENERAL ASSEMBLY CONCLUDES IN NAIROBI

Dagoretti South Constituency Member of Parliament Hon. John Kairie is the new Global President of the World Scouts Parliamentary Union. Elected by the Executive Committee at the just-concluded WSPU 11th General Assembly in Nairobi, Hon. Kiarie has made a promise to champion the implementation of the resolutions of the Assembly, and acknowledged the huge task ahead.

Hon Kiarie, while accepting his new position to steer the global agenda of the WSPU, acknowledged the challenges that need to be addressed in order to achieve the dream of attaining the SDGs, Creative Economy, and Climate Action as per the theme of the Conference.

“ I come in the office at a time of great global shakeups, a reality in the world today. But there is space for us scouts to put our mark on the global footprint and make it better.” He said.

Hon. Kiarie added that : ““A lot is happening globally but there is a place for scouting in goverment, institutions, religion, family and the society. We are called to lead. Today the World is crying and critical thinkers to make informed decisions are needed & WSPU in its special place has a big role to play,”

Adding that “ We are called upon as a generation to make emotional intelligence an essential need for every child and adult globally, and to bring back logic to problem solving”.

Highlighting some of the issues that demand immediate attention globally, the new WSPU President attributed most shortcomings to the lack of awareness, and self-evaluation as the setbacks to achieving some common global goals like the fight against femicide.

“We currently have a big epidemic of femicide in our society, yet the skill of problem solving can come in handy to avert such situations.” Intimated Hon. Kairie.

Urging the delegates to embrace their identities proudly, Hon Kiarie stated that:

“There is a great need to refocus and reanchor ourselves to belonging, be proud of who we are, be proud of the family we come from, and to be associated with the organizations that we partner with.”

According to him, patriotism is the anchor for attaining common goals, as it gives the ability to face some of the local problems and even global disasters.

“From all deliberations we have been told there is great need to refocus and anchor ourselves to belonging and that calls upon us to have virtue of patriotism to face both local challenges and global disaster,” he urged.

Expressing optimism about the future of African leadership on the global stage, he reaffirmed his and other leaders’ ability to steer the common agenda among global delegates.

“It’s time for Africa, Africa is ready to take the mantle and we shall be going out there putting up a crusade to recruit more people to join our worthy course. And it’s a great honour to be serving you.” Said Hon. Kairie.

In conclusion, the Dagoretti South Law-maker made a promise to lead with absolute commitment.

“I am more than ready to undertake all the duties and responsibilities that will be bestowed upon me as President, and we shall stand together as one to achieve this mission as scouts.” He concluded.
