The Senate Committee on Labour and Social Welfare today rejected a proposal from Solicitor General, Hon. Shadrack Mose to form an inter-ministerial committee aimed at resolving the prolonged compensation dispute involving former employees of the Kenya Cooperative Creameries (KCC). 

 

The proposal, put forward by Hon. Mose, sought to involve the Ministries of Agriculture, Cooperatives and the National Treasury to audit and validate claims made by the ex-workers, many of whom were dismissed over two decades ago.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has recommended charges against Judy Chepchirchir, Director of First Choice Recruitment and Consultancy Agency, for obtaining money by false pretences. The move follows widespread allegations of fraud, with over 5,000 young people claiming they were defrauded by the agency in a scheme promising overseas job placements, particularly in the run-up to the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

In a move towards electoral reform, Senator Wakili Hillary Sigei, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Justice, Legal Affairs, and Human Rights, addressed key stakeholders at the National Conference on the Roadmap to the Finalization of Electoral Reforms, held in a Nairobi hotel. The two-day event, organized by the Election Law and Governance Institute for Africa (ELGIA), brought together prominent figures from various political and governmental institutions.

The National Assembly’s Committee on Finance and National Planning, and the Senate Committee on Finance and Budget are set to conduct approval hearings for the nominee for appointment as the Director-General of the Competition Authority, Mr. David Kemei.

The exercise is scheduled to take place tomorrowTuesday, September 17, 2024 at Parliament Buildings.
